The attack on Nord Stream may never be solved
One year after the attack on the Nordstream pipelines, the investigation continues to be delayed. The German government keeps its findings secret, the EU does not investigate, NATO remains silent.
One year after the attacks on the Nordstream pipelines, the guesswork continues. According to German investigators, there are some suspects, all of whom are from Ukraine.
But according to research by ARD, Süddeutsche Zeitung and ZEIT, most of the suspects deny involvement in the crime. And the German government is doing everything it can to keep Ukraine out of the firing line.
Also the USA do not want to have done it - despite the revelations of S. Hersh. On the anniversary, Hersh presented new statements. According to them, Washington's aim was to dissuade Berlin from a possible return to Russian gas supplies.
"The Biden administration blew up the [Nord Stream] pipelines but the action had little to do with winning or stopping the war in Ukraine. It resulted from fears in the White House that Germany would waver and turn on the flow of Russia gas - and that Germany and then NATO, for economic reasons, would fall under the sway of Russia and its extensive and inexpensive natural resources. And thus followed the ultimate fear: that America would lose its long-standing primacy in Western Europe."
S. Hersh
In fact, there were German-Russian talks at the time about the alleged defective turbine. Germany also blocked EU sanctions against gas from Russia, as demanded by Ukraine, for example.
However, this is not more than an indication. Ukraine and the USA had a motive - that's all we know.
Initially, the motivation to clarify the background seemed at least as strong. But the German government withheld its (alleged) findings, the EU never investigated, and NATO remained silent.
No interest in clarification
In the meantime, no one in the West seems to have any interest in clarification. The break with Russia is complete, and the German government no longer wants to change that. The USA and Ukraine have achieved their goals in this respect.
The EU and NATO are cooperating more closely than ever, and critical infrastructure is being jointly protected against supposedly threatening attacks from Russia. No one wants to shake that either.
That is why investigations are delayed and findings are concealed. The Nordstream attack, which Brussels characteristically calls "sabotage," continues to be covered up.
So will this act of war against an important, if not the most important, European infrastructure go unpunished? It certainly looks that way...
